Dogra
The Dogra Rajputs are a prominent martial community of northern India, primarily inhabiting the Jammu region of Jammu & Kashmir, as well as parts of Himachal Pradesh and Punjab. They are considered to be of Suryavanshi Rajput lineage and are known for their strong warrior traditions, cultural heritage, and royal legacy. The Dogras rose to significant prominence during the 19th century with the establishment of the Dogra dynasty, which ruled the princely state of Jammu and Kashmir under the leadership of Maharaja Gulab Singh, a general in the Sikh Empire who later became the first Dogra ruler. The Dogras have a rich tradition of military service, with many serving in the Indian Army, particularly in the Dogra Regiment, one of India’s oldest and most respected infantry units. Their language, Dogri, and distinct customs reflect a unique blend of Rajput valor and Pahari culture, making them an influential and historically significant Rajput group in the subcontinent.
