The Chauhan, Chouhan, or Chohan is a Rajput clan that ruled parts of northern India during the medieval period. Prithviraj Chauhan, the last Hindu king of Delhi, was a prominent member of this community.

== History of Chauhans ==
According to Rajput bardic accounts, the Chauhans are one of the four Agnikula Rajput clans, which claim to have originated from a sacrificial fire-pit (agnikunda) at Mount Abu. This event is said to have occurred to prepare them to fight against the Asuras (demons). In this context, Agnikula is often considered a separate branch of the Suryavanshi Rajput lineage.

The descendants of the Chauhan Rajputs ruled several princely states in Western and Northern India until the pre-independence era.

The progenitor of the Chauhan dynasty, Manik Rai (circa AD 685), was the lord of Ajmer and Sambhar in the Western Rajwara region.
